Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, stirring until well combined. The batter will be thin.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Tap the pans on the counter a few times to release any air bubbles.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then carefully turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once the cakes are cool, you can frost them with your favorite frosting. Some options include chocolate buttercream, whipped cream, or cream cheese frosting.
